At Queen of Apostles we focus on providing our students with the skills and knowledge required to be successful learners in the 21st Century. Our school takes great pride in the wide variety of technology available to students in all areas of the school. As well as each classroom having an interactive whiteboard and a class set of iPads, we also have a well resourced computer lab which the students visit regularly to learn and develop skills. ICT learning and technology is embedded throughout the curriculum and is used to promote student engagement, motivation and excellence. Students are encouraged to use ICT to develop their skills in problem solving, critical thinking, creativity and communication.
At Queen of Apostles we believe the iPad is an important tool to support our classroom teaching and learning programs. We integrate the iPads across all learning areas in order to enhance and ultimately redefine students’ learning experiences. All classes from K-6 have access to a class set of iPads. In 2016, we launched the implementation of a 1:1 iPad program in our Year 4 classrooms. Having an iPad as a 1:1 device has given our students the benefit of:
The 1:1 program allows for 24/7 access to the device at home and at school to further extend the learning and improve links between home and school.
Our school is able to offer many opportunities for students to program and operate robotics technology. Students in the early years are learning to program and operate Bee Bots. Our Year 5 and Year 6 students have the opportunity to build and program Lego Robotics. In previous years our students have had great success in programming their robots to dance and complete a variety of activities.
Our computer lab provides all classes with access to desktop computers. Through the use of the computer lab, students are taught how to conduct safe internet searches as part of inquiry based learning projects as well as operating coding programs, developing their typing skills and learning the basics in computer operations.
Our students have been learning how to operate and use green screen technology – a common technology used in movie and television productions. Students have been using the green screen to record news presentations and transport themselves to other places in the world.
Queen of Apostles School is a vibrant, Catholic community which follows in the footsteps of Christ and his Mother, Mary, who gave witness to the values of love, unity and peace.
We provide a nurturing, inclusive and safe environment which celebrates each individual’s unique talents and qualities.
Our school encourages a passion for lifelong learning and prepares today’s children for their place in tomorrow’s society.
